🧿 Join us for a witchy and enchanting workshop in Dupont Circle, learning how to create spell jars and Florida Water from scratch. This program will be co-hosted by Phim Her of Truth & Tarot and Daniela Fant of the Tiny Broom Closet. FAQs

• What are spell jars? Multiple civilizations have used spell jars throughout history to protect themselves, their homes and/or their belongings. Some historians trace spell jars back to witch jars, which were popular during the Middle Ages in Europe. Today, spell jars are typically used as charms to protect and repel folks from negative energy, or to attract positive and protective energy. Practitioners typically fill and seal jars with ingredients (e.g., spices), written intentions and spells and/or crystals.

• How will we use spell jars in our workshop? Participants will be given two small 10ml. spell jars to fill with a variety of folk magic ingredients such as cinnamon (good luck and abundance), rose buds (love, relationships and compassion), bay leaves (protection), fennel seed (anti-hexing) and lavender (peace). They will also be taught how to seal their jars with wax. All supplies are included in the ticket price for this workshop.

• What is Florida Water? Firstly, it is not water sourced from Florida! Instead, Florida Water takes its cue from three things:

  • An eponymous cologne most popularly manufactured by by Murray and Lanman; this cologne has been historically used as an energetic protection spray for magic practitioners, including but not limited to “Voodoo, Hoodoo, Wiccan and Santeria” observers (see this article for a more in-depth historical write up)

  • The Spanish translation of Florida is “flowery” or “flowery place” (Florida Water cologne is known for smelling fresh, like flowers and citrus)

  • The cologne was named after the Fountain of Youth, which is located in Florida

• How will we use Florida Water in our workshop? We will make our own homemade Florida water using natural ingredients. Each participant will walk away with an 8oz. mason jar filled with their uniquely mixed Florida Water. All supplies are included in the ticket price for this workshop.

• I’m not super witchy, but I’m intrigued. Can I come? Yes, of course! We welcome open-minded folks who want to learn about energy healing and folk magic. 🧿

Meet the Organizers

Florida Water Workshop Lead

Daniela is a Queer Latin Witch coming from generations of brujas, healers, and psychic mediums. Her gifts became apparent at a very young age. With the support of her family she was able to hone and navigate the magical world around her. She learned by leaning into folk magic from her culture to support her journey. She is now here supporting those who are just starting their magical or healing journeys.

Come join our workshop to learn how to create your very own Cleansing Spiritual Water. Using common household items, we will create cleansing energetic support for your own use! This is great for clearing out dense energy from day to day energetic interactions to needing a little extra magical support. Supplies will be provided! We hope to create magic with you all.

Spell Jar Workshop Lead

Phim is an energy healer with an independent practice in life coaching, reiki healing and tarot reading. Her family lineage includes shaman divination and funeral rite musicians. She taps into her healing practices with intuitive channeling to open up to a greater source of wisdom.

She has been a student of folk magic under the tutelage of healers and teachers such as Daniela. Today, she blends folk magic practices such as candle magic and spell jar magic into her spiritual practice and healing work.

Phim enjoys demystifying mindfulness, spiritual and healing arts practices for the layperson through retreats and workshops. She looks forward to introducing the symbolism behind everyday kitchen ingredients in her spell jar workshop.
